Did you know that tooth decay is five times more common than asthma and entirely preventable?

Tooth decay is caused by bacteria that builds up on tooth surfaces as a clear, sticky film called plaque. Plaque feeds on the sugars left on your teeth by the foods you eat and produces acids that attack your tooth enamel, making them vulnerable to infection. Brushing and flossing remove plaque and protect your tooth enamel.

But. being parents ourselves. we know how difficult it can be to always make sure your child is brushing and flossing properly. So, is there anything else you can do to help prevent bacteria-causing cavities from attacking your child’s teeth? Yes, there is!

Fluoride treatments and sealants have proven to be powerful allies in the fight against tooth decay. The infographic below shows how effective they be in protecting your child’s teeth:

Power is in Prevention infographic: Fluoride treatments and sealants are cavity-fighting superheros for all ages! Fluoride treatments help prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid from plaque and bacteria. Treatment can also reverse early decay. Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings applied to chewing surfaces of back teeth to protect them from tooth decay. For all ages: Both treatments are especially recommended for children under 16. However, research shows they're effective treatments to protect against cavity-causing plaque in adults as well. Sealants on permanent molars reduce the risk of cavities by 80%. Sealants and fluoride work together to prevent tooth decay, but they're only two parts of total preventative dental care. Dental infographic by Roadside Dental Marketing
