How we make first appointments special

Here’s what to expect on the big day

We’ll tailor your child’s first visit to fit their personality and needs to make sure it’s a great one. If your child has sensory sensitivities or dental anxiety, we offer desensitization visits to help them become familiar with our office in a relaxed, no-pressure setting. Just let us know, and we’ll make special arrangements.

During the first appointment

Throughout the appointment, games, distractions, and rewards make things fun.

After you’ve met our team and toured the office, we’ll get to know your child and chat with them while playing at the magnet wall or in the dental chair—they’ll choose, and we’ll adapt based on their comfort level. We’ll do some laughing and listening to help put them at ease until they’re ready to start.

Exam & cleaning

Dr. Juntgen

The first step is fun! Your child will get to pick a special toothpaste for their cleaning. We have lots of wacky options, including:

  • Chocolate
  • Bubble gum
  • Orange vanilla
  • Cinnamon
  • Cherry
  • Strawberry
  • Mint

Then, we’ll show your child all the tools we’ll use, and they can touch and explore them to ease any worries. They’ll also get to pick out a favorite Disney movie or TV show to watch. After a gentle cleaning, Dr. Juntgen will gently examine your child’s teeth, using photos and X-rays if necessary then spend time providing one-on-one education.

Before you leave

We’ll give your child a prize token, and they can win an extra token by tricking Dr. Juntgen into saying the magic word. We also offer mini-chapsticks for older kids. A few days later, your child will receive another surprise in the mail from us.

Knowledge is power

Beautiful smiles start with education

We believe helping your family maintain great oral health at home should be as easy—and fun!—as possible. You can also count on us to:

  • Discuss hygiene tips and techniques at the brushing sink and chair
  • Always explain and demonstrate each step of treatment
  • Review the appointment with you in our consultation room and use photos to document and explain our findings
  • Offer information booklets and pamphlets for additional learning
  • Provide entertaining and informative videos on our social media channels
